The Kogi State Police Command has officially confirmed the armed attack on the family residence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Obeiba, Okehi Local Government Area. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday night, is now under active investigation.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Miller Dantawaye, speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lokoja, stated that while no arrests have been made, police operatives are working diligently to track down the suspects behind the incident.

“We are fully aware of this unfortunate and criminal act. Investigation has commenced, and we are determined to bring those responsible to justice,” CP Dantawaye said.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central under the PDP, revealed that the attackers assumed she was in town and targeted her family’s home. Fortunately, local community members and security personnel responded swiftly, preventing any casualties.

In a statement from her media team, the attack was described as a “deliberate attempt to silence” the Senator for her outspoken stance and dedication to her constituents.

The statement further called on the Inspector-General of Police to urgently reinstate the Senator’s security details, stressing the need for enhanced protection following this “brazen and calculated” act of violence.

“We condemn the attack on Sen. Akpoti-Uduaghan’s family house and urge the public to remain calm. Her courage and commitment to truth and justice should not be threatened with violence,” the statement said.
