🚨 JUST IN: Court Grants Emefiele ₦2 Billion Bail Over Alleged ₦753 Abuja Housing Fraud.

In a major development on Monday, the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) granted bail to embattled former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, for ₦2 billion.

Justice Yusuf Halilu, who presided over the bail ruling, noted that although Emefiele has three ongoing criminal trials, he has not jumped bail in any of them, influencing the court’s decision.

🏘 8-Count Charge Over Alleged ₦753 Housing Units

Emefiele is facing an eight-count charge bordering on unlawful acquisition of property, including a housing estate of 753 units, and alleged diversion of billions of naira into proxy accounts during his tenure as CBN governor.

⚖ Bail Conditions

Justice Halilu ordered that:

Emefiele must produce two sureties who each own property worth ₦2 billion in either Asokoro, Maitama, or Wuse 2 — all within Abuja.

  • He must submit his international passport and travel documents to the court.
  • The bail must be perfected by next Wednesday; otherwise, Emefiele will be remanded in custody.

⚖ Prosecution’s Stand

While the lead prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), did not oppose the bail, he urged the court to include additional restrictions, given the gravity of the allegations.

Emefiele’s lawyer, Matthew Burkaa (SAN), moved the bail application.
