ABUJA —
Nigerian media mogul and former presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has alleged that Nyesom Wike, former Rivers State governor, paid $30,000 to each delegate during the 2022 PDP presidential primary.
Momodu made the revelation during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, claiming that a former Nigerian president had warned him against contesting the primary due to Wike’s financial muscle.
“A former president of Nigeria sent someone to tell me not to waste my money on the PDP 2022 primaries because Wike had raised the stakes to $30K per delegate. That’s $30K multiplied by 774 delegates,” Momodu stated.
Wike vs PDP: A Bitter Aftermath
The 2022 PDP primary, which ended with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s victory, triggered deep internal divisions within the opposition party. Wike, who finished as runner-up, rejected the outcome and refused to support Atiku’s candidacy in the 2023 general election.
Instead, Wike aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and backed Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who eventually won the 2023 presidential race.
Dele Momodu: Wike Destabilised PDP
Dele Momodu, who also contested in the PDP primary, has been a consistent critic of Wike’s actions, describing them as destabilising and harmful to the unity of the party.

“Wike worked against the PDP from within. His influence and conduct after the primaries played a huge role in weakening the party during the 2023 elections,” Momodu added.
Atiku, Others Dump PDP for ADC
In a major political twist, Atiku Abubakar, alongside several key PDP stalwarts, has recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—a move that signals a dramatic realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
- This growing shift highlights the cracks and unresolved grievances that have plagued the PDP since the controversial 2022 primary and the fallout of the 2023 general election.
