Why VeryDarkMan Was Arrested by EFCC – Inside Details Emerge.

ABUJA — Controversial social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of cyberstalking, according to insider sources.

A senior EFCC official who spoke on condition of anonymity told NaijaBlogDaily that VDM was picked up following “multiple complaints” accusing him of using his social media platforms to “harass, insult, and intimidate” various individuals. These alleged actions are said to potentially violate provisions of the Cybercrimes Act of 2015.

While the identities of the complainants and full details of the case have not been officially released, legal counsel to VeryDarkMan, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the arrest and pledged to secure his client’s release.

“I’ll be back in Abuja by Monday afternoon, and by 4 p.m., we will be at the EFCC to apply for bail,” Adeyanju told Vanguard. He also noted that the EFCC has yet to formally present the specific charges against VDM.

Meanwhile, prominent human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has condemned the arrest, calling it “an unlawful attempt to silence a voice exposing alleged corruption within the EFCC.”

Sowore argued that the EFCC has no legal jurisdiction over civil matters like defamation or cyber libel. “The agency must immediately release VDM, as their actions constitute abuse of power and a violation of fundamental rights,” he stated.

Naija Blog Daily gathered that the EFCC may file formal charges against VDM as early as Monday.

Attempts to reach EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale for official comment have so far been unsuccessful, as his lines remain unreachable.
