Vice President Kashim Shettima has visited Aisha Buhari, widow of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, in London, following the ex-president’s passing on Sunday.

The Vice President led a Federal Government delegation to the UK to facilitate the return of Buhari’s remains to Nigeria for burial. During the visit, Shettima also met with the children of the late Nigerian leader, offering condolences to the mourning family.

Naija Blog Daily had earlier reported that former President Muhammadu Buhari died in London while receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness. His passing marks the end of an era in Nigerian leadership history.

Buhari’s Legacy

Buhari, a former military Head of State, returned decades later to serve as Nigeria’s democratically elected president, holding office from 2015 to 2023.

During his presidency, he was often away for extended medical trips, spending a total of 225 days abroad — the longest stretch being 104 days in London in 2017.

Burial Arrangements

The late president’s remains will be flown back to Nigeria on Tuesday, with burial scheduled to hold in Daura, his hometown in Katsina State.
