A Nigerian mother who recently came under fire after a viral video showed her allegedly feeding her five-month-old baby alcohol has now spoken out, claiming the substance was not alcohol but Coca-Cola.
The video, which trended widely on social media last week, showed the woman giving her infant liquid from a sachet branded as “Action Bitters”—an alcoholic herbal drink. The caption on the clip suggested the baby was given the substance “every night” to help her sleep, sparking national outrage and prompting an investigation by the Nigerian Police Force over allegations of child abuse.
“It Was Just Coke, Not Alcohol” – Mother Speaks
In a follow-up video that began circulating on Wednesday, the woman—whose identity remains undisclosed—defended herself. She explained that the Action Bitters sachet seen in the viral clip was actually filled with Coca-Cola, and that the entire act was part of a staged content creation attempt meant to go viral.
“About the video I posted earlier, that is not Action Bitters. It is Coke. I poured Coke into the sachet. Since I posted the video, people have been dragging me on social media,” she said.

Below is the Video Where the woman Clears the air of the viral Speculation about giving her child alcohol that it was coca-cola.
She claimed she had video proof on her phone showing when she washed the sachet and poured Coke into it, insisting she never intended to harm her child.
“My baby is just five months old. I would never give her Action Bitters. I’m not that kind of mother. I don’t even take it myself,” she added.
Failed Attempt at Viral Content
The mother admitted that the video was a misguided effort to create viral content and had badly backfired.
“I underestimated how people would react. I was just trying to make content. It wasn’t alcohol at all. Nigerians, please forgive us,” she pleaded.

Her statement has triggered mixed reactions online, with some netizens calling for her to still be held accountable, while others believe the backlash may have gone too far if the content was indeed staged with no real harm done to the child.
Police Investigation Still Ongoing
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Police has not officially withdrawn its investigation. Child rights activists continue to demand thorough scrutiny of the incident to determine whether any form of child endangerment took place.
