Controversial Nigerian social media critic, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been re-arrested by the Nigerian Police over allegations of cyberbullying Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh, as well as music producer Samklef.

VDM appeared on Thursday before Justice Musa Liman at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he was slammed with a five-count charge related to online harassment and defamation. The charges are based on violations of Section 24 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

The social media activist, known for his outspoken and controversial online presence, pleaded not guilty to all charges.

VDM’s legal counsel, Deji Adeyanju, requested that his client continue under the bail conditions earlier granted by Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon during his first arraignment on May 22, 2024. The prosecution, represented by Victor Okoye from the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), did not oppose the motion.

Justice Liman accepted the request, allowing VDM to remain on the previously granted N10 million bail with two sureties who must either be Level 17 federal civil servants or employees of reputable companies, along with evidence of three years’ tax clearance.

The court adjourned the trial to July 24, 2025, for further hearing.
