US. President Donald Trump has criticized Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, blaming him for extending the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war by refusing to consider territorial concessions, particularly Crimea, as part of a potential peace deal.
Ahead of key peace talks scheduled for Wednesday in London involving U.S., European, and Ukrainian officials, Zelenskyy made it clear that Ukraine will not surrender any territory.
“There is nothing to talk about. It is our land — the land of the Ukrainian people,” Zelenskyy stated.
During previous peace discussions in Paris, reports indicate that U.S. officials floated a controversial proposal suggesting Russia could retain control of some occupied Ukrainian territories, including Crimea, to end the conflict. This claim comes from a European diplomat who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Trump, known for his critical stance on Ukraine’s strategy, responded on social media, labeling Zelenskyy’s refusal as “very harmful” to negotiations.
“Nobody is asking Zelenskyy to recognize Crimea as Russian territory, but if he wants Crimea, why didn’t they fight for it eleven years ago? It was handed over without a shot,” Trump remarked.
The war in Ukraine, which began in February 2022 after Russia’s full-scale invasion, has caused widespread destruction, displaced millions, and drawn in international support and sanctions.

Zelenskyy has consistently insisted that Ukraine’s sovereignty is non-negotiable, including the status of Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014.
