Tottenham Hotspur will be without key forward Son Heung-min in their crucial UEFA Europa League quarterfinal return leg against Eintracht Frankfurt, as confirmed by manager Ange Postecoglou on Wednesday.
The South Korean international is sidelined due to a persistent foot injury, which also kept him out of the club’s recent Premier League loss to Wolverhampton.
“Sonny didn’t travel in the end, he’s the only one that misses out,” Postecoglou stated during the pre-match press conference. “He’s been battling with his foot problem for a few weeks now. He tried to train yesterday, but it wasn’t right, so we decided to let him rest and recover.”

Son has contributed 3 goals and 1 assist in this season’s Europa League campaign and will be a big miss for Spurs as they aim to reach the semifinals after a 1-1 draw in the first leg in London. Goals from Pedro Porro and Hugo Ekitike left the tie wide open ahead of Thursday’s showdown at the Waldstadion.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, under increasing pressure due to poor domestic form, remains defiant. Spurs currently sit 15th in the Premier League, and their 4-2 defeat to Wolverhampton last weekend has intensified criticism.
“I couldn’t care less about the criticism,” said Postecoglou. “We’ve got a great opportunity tomorrow, and I’m not going to let that slip without fighting tooth and nail.”
Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt boss Dino Toppmöller dismissed the notion that league form matters in Europe. “Their defeat to Wolverhampton plays absolutely no role — their only focus is the Europa League,” he said.

Frankfurt, third in the Bundesliga, will also be without key player Kevin Trapp, with Kaua Santos expected to start in goal. Trapp is still recovering from injury.
Looking ahead to the possibility of a penalty shootout, Toppmöller expressed confidence. “I have absolutely no fear of a shootout,” he said. “If it comes to penalties, we’ll win.”
Frankfurt, the 2022 Europa League champions, are hoping to repeat their success, while Tottenham are desperate to revive their season with European glory.
