Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has cleared the air on long-standing rumours that she sabotages other female artists in the Nigerian music industry, while also expressing disappointment that she doesn’t receive enough recognition for her impact and achievements.
Speaking on the latest episode of the OffAir Show hosted by Gbemi and Toolz, Tiwa dismissed the claims that she blocks her female colleagues from performing at shows or getting bookings. The award-winning singer challenged anyone with proof to come forward, stressing that promoters may be using her name unfairly.
- “If you’ve heard from anybody that I tried to block your bag, mention names,” she said. “Maybe the promoters are lying and using me as an excuse. Maybe they just don’t want to book three or four girls for the same event, so they claim I’m the one blocking others.”
The “Somebody’s Son” hitmaker’s remarks come years after Kenyan singer Victoria Kimani accused her of allegedly blocking her from performing at certain shows — a claim Tiwa has now firmly denied.

In the same interview, Tiwa Savage also opened up about feeling underappreciated despite her massive success and influence in Afrobeats.
- “Do you think you’ve gotten your flowers from the industry?” Toolz asked.
- “No. I’m sorry, I don’t,” Tiwa replied.
Often referred to as the “Queen of Afrobeats,” Tiwa Savage remains one of Africa’s most decorated and successful female artists, with a career that has shaped the global recognition of Nigerian music. Yet, according to her, Nigerians and the industry at large still don’t give her the accolades she truly deserves.
