In his 65th Independence Day broadcast, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assured Nigerians that the nation’s most difficult economic period is now behind them, declaring that reforms are beginning to yield visible results. He urged citizens to remain patient and hopeful, saying “the worst is over, and prosperity is near.”

1. Economic Growth
   Nigeria’s GDP grew by 4.23% in Q2 2025, the fastest in four years, while inflation dropped to 20.12%, the lowest in three years. Tinubu attributed this to subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, and improved fiscal policies.
2. Stronger Reserves
   External reserves rose to $42.03 billion, the highest since 2019, with consistent trade surpluses showing renewed investor confidence.
3. Fiscal Stability
   Debt service-to-revenue ratio fell from 97% in 2022 to below 50%, giving the government more room to invest in education, health, and infrastructure.
4. Oil & Energy Sector
   Crude oil output climbed to 1.68 million barrels per day, while Nigeria resumed domestic petrol refining for the first time in 40 years, strengthening energy security.
5. Infrastructure Development
   Key projects like the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and Kano–Maradi rail line are advancing, aimed at boosting trade, jobs, and connectivity.
6. Social Investments
   Over ₦330bn has been disbursed to support eight million vulnerable households, alongside youth-focused schemes like YouthCred and Credicorp.

   More than 510,000 students have benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), making higher education more accessible.
2. Security Gains
   Security forces are reclaiming territories from insurgents and bandits, with displaced persons gradually returning home in the North-East and North-West.
3. Youth Empowerment
   Tinubu praised Nigerian youths as the nation’s greatest asset, highlighting initiatives in tech, sports, arts, and creative industries designed to empower innovation.
4. Unity & Patriotism
   The President urged Nigerians to honour the vision of the founding fathers, embrace patriotism, support local industries, and fulfil civic duties like paying taxes to build a stronger nation.
