KATSINA, NIGERIA —
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, receive the body of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina State, ahead of his final burial in Daura, his hometown.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a press conference held on Monday in Abuja.
🕊 Buhari’s Final Journey Home
According to the minister, the late Buhari’s remains—currently in London, where he passed away at the age of 82—will arrive in Nigeria by 12 noon on Tuesday.
“President Tinubu will personally receive the remains of the former President in Katsina,” Idris stated.
He noted that:
A brief military ceremony will take place at the Katsina airport.
The body will then be transported to Daura for Jana’iza (Islamic funeral prayers) and interment at his residence.
🇳🇬 Federal Government Mobilises Full Honour
Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently in London, leading a high-level Federal Government delegation to oversee final documentation and logistics for repatriation.
Minister Idris added that:
An Inter-Ministerial Committee, chaired by SGF Senator George Akume, has been set up to ensure a dignified and well-organised state burial.
The committee is working closely with the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family.
✍ National Tributes and Condolence Registers
As part of the national mourning declared by Tinubu:
- Condolence registers will be opened across all Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
- Additional registers will be available at Nigerian embassies and missions worldwide, as well as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

“The global messages of condolence from world leaders underscore Buhari’s legacy and international stature,” Idris said.
🕌 Third-Day Prayers and Cabinet Attendance
Twenty-five members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) have been directed to attend the burial ceremony and remain in Daura for the Third-Day Islamic prayers scheduled for Wednesday, July 16.
