President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima joined thousands of worshippers at the National Eid ground in Abuja on Sunday as Nigerian Muslims marked Eid-El-Fitr, a festival of gratitude, charity, and unity.
Prominent figures such as Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and several ministers were also present at the prayer ground.
Eid-El-Fitr: A Time of Gratitude and Giving
Eid-El-Fitr, which signifies the end of Ramadan, is celebrated with special prayers held in mosques and open spaces. Families gather to share meals, exchange gifts, and extend warm greetings. A key aspect of the celebration is Zakat al-Fitr, a mandatory charitable donation that ensures everyone, regardless of financial status, can partake in the festivities.
Across cultures, Eid is marked with diverse traditions—from elaborate feasts in South Asia to the vibrant clothing of Nigeria and Africa, and the grand gatherings in the Middle East. Despite these variations, the core themes of unity, gratitude, and compassion remain universal.
