ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Tuesday for Lagos to continue activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), where he currently serves as Chairman.
The ECOWAS Golden Jubilee celebrations, which commenced in Accra, Ghana, last month, will feature high-level events in Lagos, including a symbolic reenactment of the 1975 ECOWAS Declaration at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island.
Tinubu to Deliver Keynote at Eko Hotels
President Tinubu is expected to deliver a keynote address at Eko Hotels and Suites, celebrating five decades of ECOWAS achievements in regional integration, peacekeeping, and economic cooperation.
General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), the only surviving signatory to the original ECOWAS Treaty, will join the President at the commemorative event and is slated to deliver a special address.
Other notable speakers include:
- Dr. Omar Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, will give the welcome address
- Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, former Minister of External Affairs and current NIIA Chairman, will deliver a comprehensive review of ECOWAS’s 50-year journey
- The event will also feature a panel discussion with leading regional experts and diplomats.

- Section I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway
- Lekki Deep Sea Port Tax Credit Concrete Road
- Flag-off of Section II of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway
- The 7th Axial Road

- Kano-Kanwar-Danja-Hadejiya Section II Road
- Yakasai-Zalli Road
- Kano Northern By-pass
- Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai Section I
- Dabai-Kafur-Malumfashi Road
- Malumfashi-Dayi-Yashe-Gidan Mutum Daya Section III
- Eid Prayers and Return to Abuja

President Tinubu is expected to observe Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the State House Mosque, Dodan Barracks, before returning to the Federal Capital.
