President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló and Niger Republic’s Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine, joined thousands of mourners in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday to pay their final respects to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Buhari’s remains arrived in Nigeria aboard a Nigerian Air Force flight – FGT 001, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. The flight landed at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport at around 2 p.m.

President Tinubu, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and several governors were present to receive the body. Following a military farewell parade, the late statesman’s remains were transported by road to Daura.
At about 4 p.m., funeral prayers were led by Imam Hassan Yusuf at the Daura Helipad, with dignitaries including:
- Former Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou
- Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar
- Emirs of Daura, Katsina, Zazzau, Dutse, and Kazaure
- Business tycoons Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal
- The body was later laid to rest in Buhari’s private residence, in line with Islamic rites.
Initially, tight security restricted entry to the burial venue, but thousands of residents were eventually granted access to participate in the solemn event.

Local residents, friends, and family described Buhari as a man of integrity, honesty, and discipline.
Salisu Lawal, a Daura resident, said:
“He was a great man who loved staying with his people and offering a helping hand.”
Another mourner, Aliyu Nasiru, expressed grief over the national loss:
“His death created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill. He’ll be remembered for his good virtues.”
Many offered prayers for Buhari’s soul, asking Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.
The Nigerian government had declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday to honour the former president, giving Nigerians the opportunity to reflect on the life and legacy of a leader who served the nation both as a military Head of State and a democratically elected President.
