Tinubu: Every Nigerian Will Feel the Impact of Good Governance.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering inclusive good governance, promising that every Nigerian will feel the positive impact through improved infrastructure and service delivery.

The President made this assurance during the commissioning of the Collector Road CN2 (Zakari A. Kyari Street), linking Ahmadu Bello Way in Mabushi to Judges Quarters in Katampe, Abuja. He praised the completion of the project and emphasized that his government would continue to invest in critical infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for all citizens.

Represented by House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, President Tinubu applauded Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike for his transparency, accountability, and efficiency, particularly in completing the road project ahead of schedule.

“This road project reflects our administration’s vision for urban development and national growth. Infrastructure is not just an expenditure; it is an investment in our people. We are committed to ensuring that every Nigerian benefits from good governance,” Tinubu said.

Tinubu Commits to More Investments

President Tinubu reiterated plans to expand infrastructure development in roads, housing, transportation, education, and healthcare. He urged residents of Mabushi, Katampe, and surrounding areas to protect the new infrastructure, noting that its benefits extend to youths, workers, and families.

“We dedicate this road to the Nigerian people. Let us move forward, united in purpose and bold in vision, believing that a greater Nigeria is possible,” he added.

Wike Defends Ground Rent Enforcement

  • On his part, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike explained that recent enforcement measures, including the publication of defaulting ground rent payers, were not intended to embarrass property owners but to generate revenue for ongoing and future capital projects.
  • “We completed this road in under 9 months instead of 12. This shows what can happen when competent contractors are given a chance,” Wike said.

The Minister criticized wealthy individuals who default on taxes and ground rents in Nigeria while readily meeting similar obligations abroad.

  • “In London and America, they don’t default. But in Nigeria, they want to cut corners. Yet they expect world-class infrastructure. If you own property here and haven’t paid, I will publish your name. We need the funds to build,” he warned.

Wike further clarified that the FCTA only receives 1% of federal revenue, which is insufficient to cover salaries, let alone fund massive infrastructure. He said internally generated revenue (IGR), especially from ground rents, remains the most viable funding source for Abuja’s development.

“These houses are not built by the poor. They are built by the rich. And it’s only fair that they contribute to the system that supports their investments,” he said during a follow-up inspection of the Judges Quarters and N5 Road in Life Camp.
