Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has been named by TIME magazine as one of the 100 most influential figures in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for 2025.
Tijani made the prestigious list alongside tech giants like Elon Musk and Sam Altman, recognized for their remarkable contributions to the advancement of AI and its global impact.
According to a statement from the Minister’s media office in Abuja, the recognition underscores Nigeria’s growing role in shaping AI innovation at the international level.
TIME explained that its editorial team selected honorees after reviewing major AI stories over the past year and consulting experts and industry leaders. The final list highlights “leaders, innovators, shapers, and thinkers who are defining the future of AI.”

Dr. Tijani’s inclusion comes on the heels of Nigeria’s National AI Strategy (NAIS), which involved over 120 Nigerian experts collaborating to design a long-term roadmap for responsible AI adoption. His ministry has also pushed forward AI-driven initiatives in healthcare, agriculture, education, and financial inclusion, while partnering with global players such as Google and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to scale local innovations.
Reacting to the honor, Tijani said:
“This recognition from TIME further validates our belief that Nigeria can stand as a global leader in the responsible and inclusive deployment of AI for increased productivity. As we continue on this journey, my commitment remains clear — to ensure AI not only drives innovation, but also contributes to building a $1 trillion economy as envisioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
With this recognition, Nigeria further strengthens its position as a rising voice in the global AI ecosystem, showcasing its potential to transform lives through technology.
