The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), on Friday, unveiled a series of major infrastructure projects at the Federal University of Kashere (FUK) in Gombe State, including the foundation laying of a N4 billion Senate Building, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The event, held in Kashere village, Akko Local Government Area, marks a significant step in the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen tertiary education infrastructure across Nigeria.
Federal Government Committed to Transforming Higher Education
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, TETFund Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, said the new Senate Building is part of the President’s wider commitment to reposition Nigeria’s universities through strategic funding and infrastructure support.
- “TETFund remains firmly committed to supporting institutions like FUK with the necessary resources to grow and thrive. In the last two and a half years alone, we have completed and inaugurated 687 capital projects in various higher institutions across the country,” Echono stated.
The four-storey Senate Building will feature:
- A ground floor with 28 offices and an archive
- A first floor with 30 offices
- A second floor housing 33 offices
- A third floor containing the Council Chamber, committee offices, and the Vice-Chancellor’s suite, alongside other top administrative units.
President Tinubu and Health Minister Applaud Progress
President Tinubu, represented by Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, described the project as a milestone for Nigerian education.
- “Federal University of Kashere is not only advancing academic excellence but also catalyzing socio-economic transformation in the North-East region,” Pate said.
Vice-Chancellor Unveils Other TETFund Projects
Prof. Umaru Pate, the Vice-Chancellor of FUK, lauded TETFund’s unwavering support, revealing the completion of three other major projects:
- A Postgraduate Hostel, built under the 2022 TETFund annual intervention, costing ₦350.5 million
- A 500-capacity Lecture Theatre, completed with a 2022 capital intervention of ₦393.4 million
- The College of Medical Sciences Complex, funded in 2023 at ₦1.38 billion

In recognition of his legacy, the Medical College has been officially named after the late Prof. Jibril Aminu, a revered figure in Nigerian medicine and education.
Gombe Governor Commends Federal Support
Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, who commissioned the 500-seater Lecture Theatre, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and TETFund for transforming the university’s infrastructure in a short span.
“Federal University of Kashere has achieved remarkable growth through strong partnerships with intervention agencies like TETFund,” the governor noted.
Other dignitaries at the event included Senator Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central), who inaugurated the new hostel for the Medical College, as well as other top stakeholders in the education sector.
