A fresh twist has rocked Nigeria’s political landscape as the highly anticipated unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a new opposition coalition platform was abruptly halted on Wednesday in Abuja.
The event, originally scheduled to be held at the Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments in Asokoro, was cancelled just hours before kickoff, despite full payment and confirmation. The sudden cancellation has sparked outrage among prominent opposition politicians, who claim the move was orchestrated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to sabotage their efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
🔴 Hotel Cites “Internal Compliance Matter”
According to a message posted on Instagram by media mogul and PDP chieftain Dele Momodu, the hotel management cited an “internal compliance matter” as the reason for pulling the plug. The message read:
“We sincerely regret to inform you that due to an internal compliance matter that has just come to our attention, we are unable to proceed with hosting your scheduled event… We deeply apologise for the timing and inconvenience this may cause.”
🔥 Opposition Politicians Cry Foul
Reacting to the development, Dele Momodu accused the APC of using intimidation tactics:
“The intimidation of opposition by a jittery government continues… insiders described the move as fear of reprisals from APC operatives.”
In a fiery statement, Salihu Lukman, writing on behalf of People and Passion Consult Ltd, described the cancellation as a breach of contract:

“This is unacceptable. The hotel has no right to sabotage a valid and fully paid agreement. The event must proceed as agreed. This is not negotiable.”
🔹 Coalition Draws Big Political Names
Despite the setback, the unveiling of the ADC as the new opposition vehicle was expected to feature a powerful lineup of political heavyweights across party lines, including:
- Atiku Abubakar (former Vice President)
- Peter Obi (Labour Party)
- Nasir El-Rufai (former Governor of Kaduna)
- Rotimi Amaechi (former Minister of Transportation)
- David Mark (former Senate President)
Aminu Tambuwal, Sule Lamido, Liyel Imoke, and Sam Egwu (all former governors)
With tensions rising and allegations flying, the cancellation has only deepened the crackling political suspense surrounding Nigeria’s 2027 elections.
