Telecommunication consumers in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have expressed frustration over poor mobile network services despite the recent hike in data and call tariffs by Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in Nigeria.
During interviews conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), several users lamented that the increase in subscription costs has not translated into better service delivery. Many reported experiencing epileptic internet connections, dropped calls, and server errors, despite having active data subscriptions.
According to Mr. Ogah Paul, a subscriber, “I had enough data, but I couldn’t access the internet due to a persistent network issue. The only thing telecom companies know how to do is drain data without providing quality service. It’s frustrating.”

He added that even downloading simple videos could take up to a whole day due to poor connection quality, urging telecom providers to upgrade their infrastructure and resolve lingering issues.
Another frustrated user, Mr. Victor James, questioned the delay in data activation after purchase. “Why does it take up to 24 hours for a data plan to reflect? I am tired of this terrible service. I have data, but I can’t use it the way I want,” he said.

This comes after a February 2024 statement from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), where the Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, assured that the commission would hold network operators accountable for poor service delivery.
However, not all subscribers shared the same experience. Ms. Josephine Tanko, a satisfied customer, said her preferred network provider has consistently delivered fast and reliable internet. “It’s the best in speed and quality, and I’ll always stick with them,” she said.
She advised other telecom operators to upgrade their services and meet their subscribers’ expectations.
