The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for fostering religious tolerance and harmony in Nigeria, noting that such inclusiveness is contributing to the country’s economic growth and unity.
The Sultan made this endorsement during the commissioning of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Darul’Ilm Centre for Islamic Studies in Kaduna, built and donated by the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Tosin Ajayi, to support orphans and the less privileged.
Call for Unity Beyond Religion and Ethnicity
Speaking at the event, the Sultan urged Nigerians to look beyond religious and ethnic divides, stressing that nations that achieved economic greatness did so by promoting unity and shared values.
- “The coming together of people of different faiths and ethnicities will help bridge the gaps of disunity and de-emphasize the problems of this country,” he said.
He also praised the presence of top security officials at the event, describing it as a sign of strong synergy and trust among Nigeria’s security services.
DSS Boss Highlights Education as Security Strategy
- Represented by a retired DSS director, Ahmed Zalmar, DSS boss Tosin Ajayi highlighted the agency’s five core mandates: espionage, insurgency, sabotage, subversion, and terrorism prevention.
- He emphasized that education is a strategic tool for tackling subversion and societal discontent, which in turn strengthens internal security.
- “Reducing discontent among the populace is a powerful counter-subversion strategy. That’s why I invest in education as a key solution,” he said.
- Ajayi noted that part of his Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy includes partnering with stakeholders to support education for vulnerable populations.
Finance Minister Hails Faith-Based Education
Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, also spoke at the event alongside Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu. Edun reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to faith-based education and school feeding programmes.
