Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has pledged to launch a full-scale campaign against certificate forgers immediately after the November 8 governorship election.
Speaking in Awka over the weekend during the inauguration of his party’s campaign council, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) leader said the fight against forgery would follow his administration’s earlier crackdown on fake native doctors who exploit people with promises of wealth without work.
Soludo alleged that the running mate of a governorship candidate from a major opposition party was parading a fake PhD degree. He stressed that such deceit not only undermines the integrity of education but also misleads young people into believing that degrees can simply be bought.
- “INEC provides a column where candidates state their qualifications. This particular running mate listed only a school certificate and a PhD, skipping diploma, degree, and master’s levels. Investigations showed that the so-called PhD was obtained from a fake institution with no accreditation in the U.S. or recognition by Nigeria’s National Universities Commission. These institutions charge as low as $60 to issue fake certificates,” Soludo explained.

The governor condemned the trend as harmful to society, warning that fake qualifications demoralize hardworking students and create a culture of shortcuts. He vowed that his administration would not shy away from the responsibility of sanitizing Anambra.
- “After the November 8 election, we will declare war on fake certificate holders. They are deceiving our children, and we cannot allow that to continue. If you want a PhD, you must sit down and work for it,” he declared.
According to Soludo, restoring morality and discipline remains a core priority of his administration as he works to reposition Anambra for greater development.
