The Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland has sentenced pro-Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa to six years’ imprisonment after finding him guilty of multiple terrorism-related offences.
In its judgment delivered on Monday, the court ruled that Ekpa incited terrorism and actively participated in the activities of a terrorist organisation between August 2021 and November 2024.
According to Finnish newspaper Yle, the judges highlighted that Ekpa leveraged his large social media following to escalate violent tensions in Nigeria’s South-East region. The three-member panel of judges described him as “an influential member of a militant separatist movement whose goal was to actualise the secession of a Biafran state from Nigeria.”
The court further revealed that Ekpa supplied armed groups in the South-East with weapons, explosives, and ammunition through his network of contacts, while also encouraging violence in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter).

Beyond the terrorism charges, Simon Ekpa was also convicted of aggravated tax fraud and violating Finland’s Attorneys Act.
As of the time of filing this report, Ekpa’s legal team had not issued an official statement on whether he would appeal the ruling.
This conviction marks a major legal development in the ongoing international scrutiny of separatist activities linked to Nigeria’s Biafra movement.
