In a major development from the National Assembly, the Nigerian Senate has constituted an 18-member oversight committee to monitor the activities of the Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.). This move is aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and good governance in Rivers State.
The announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the Senate’s resumption of plenary on Tuesday. According to Akpabio, the establishment of the committee underscores the Senate’s commitment to democratic processes and effective legislative oversight in the state.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele was appointed as chairman of the committee. Akpabio emphasized the importance of the committee’s mandate, noting that its role is crucial to ensuring responsible governance and checks and balances within the state administration.
The Senate President added that the composition of the committee could be reviewed after further consultations. He urged the committee to commence its duties immediately due to the urgency of its assignment.
