The Social Democratic Party (SDP) Kaduna State Chapter has publicly distanced itself from former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufai, stating that there is no official record of his membership within the party.
Addressing a press conference in Kaduna on Friday, Alhaji Idris Inuwa, Assistant National Secretary (North-West) of SDP, also dismissed the reported dissolution of the State Working Committee, describing it as an illegal move to hijack the party’s leadership.
Inuwa asserted that the Kaduna State Executive Committee (Exco) was elected through a duly conducted state congress, making it the legitimate representative body of party members. He emphasized:
“This body holds a four-year mandate that remains valid, binding, and legally recognized throughout its tenure.”
Condemning the purported dissolution, Inuwa stated:
“Any attempt to arbitrarily dissolve this duly constituted leadership structure violates the party’s constitution and undermines due process, fairness, and internal democracy.”
He explained that SDP’s constitution provides clear procedures for dissolving a State Exco, including investigation, committee setup, and fair hearing—none of which were followed before issuing what he called an illegal and unilateral letter of dissolution.

Furthermore, Inuwa dismissed the caretaker committee established under a single individual, stating that it lacks legal standing and is “null, void, and of no effect whatsoever.”
While acknowledging the increasing interest in the party, he stressed that membership admission must follow due process, and the State Exco remains open to prospective members who adhere to the party’s established guidelines.
