The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.), has appointed Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
In a statement released on Tuesday, Ibas emphasized that Worika’s appointment was based on his exceptional credentials, extensive experience, and outstanding performance during the rigorous selection process.
Why Worika Was Chosen
According to the statement:
“Professor Worika’s distinguished career spans academia, international legal practice, and high-level policy advisory roles, making him uniquely qualified to support the administrator in the critical task of fulfilling Mr. President’s mandate.”
His appointment is effective immediately.
The statement further highlighted that the decision aligns with the administrator’s vision of leveraging the expertise of Rivers State’s human capital to foster peace, stability, and security in the state.
First Major Appointment Since State of Emergency
This marks the first key appointment made by Vice Admiral Ibas since his assumption of office on March 18, 2025. His appointment followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State during a nationwide broadcast.
Resignation of Rivers Civil Service Head
Meanwhile, in a related development, Dr. George Nwaeke, the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, who previously served under the suspended governor, tendered his resignation on Tuesday.
