Rivers Crisis: I Never Summoned Fubara or Deputy – Sole Administrator Ibas Denies Viral Report.

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.), has denied a widely circulated claim that he summoned suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, for a meeting scheduled for Friday, April 18, 2025.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Sir Dede Sampson Friday, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ibas described the viral announcement as completely false and part of a deliberate attempt to destabilize Rivers State.

“The Rivers State Government has become aware of fraudulent announcements circulating on social media, falsely attributed to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government,” the statement read.

The alleged fake notice had claimed that the governor and his deputy were summoned to explain their actions concerning appointments and state matters—a claim the government categorically rejected.

The government said:

“The Rivers State Government categorically states that this announcement is fake and did not originate from any official source. The public is urged to disregard this and any similar misinformation.”

Ibas, through the official channels, warned against fake news, urging the public to rely strictly on verified sources such as:

The statement concluded with a call for unity and calm, urging all Rivers people to avoid spreading unverified reports and remain vigilant in the face of politically motivated misinformation.
