A coalition of civil society organizations, under the banner of Civic Room for Rule of Law, has declared support for the immediate removal of Rivers State’s Sole Administrator, Ibok-ete Ibas, citing serious breaches of constitutional procedures.
NaijaBlogDaily reports that the move follows growing nationwide outrage over Ibas’ alleged overreach, particularly the controversial dismissal of appointees of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Renowned human rights advocate and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, on Thursday, called for Ibas’s sack, insisting that his actions violate established constitutional and legal protocols. Falana pointed specifically to the Sole Administrator’s recent appointments and dismissals, which he described as unlawful.
Falana also referenced a Federal Government Gazette issued by President Bola Tinubu, which clearly states that Ibas is only to act based on regulations directly issued by the Presidency. Any actions outside those bounds are deemed unauthorized.
Echoing Falana’s concerns, the Civic Room for Rule of Law, in a statement signed by its President, Maxwell Egboh, accused Ibas of flouting presidential orders and disregarding the rule of law. The coalition warned that such arbitrary governance has created widespread tension and instability in Rivers State.

“The Sole Administrator’s continuous disregard for legal frameworks has resulted in an atmosphere of confusion and governance breakdown,” the coalition stated. “We call on President Tinubu to uphold constitutional integrity by ordering Ibas’ immediate removal.”
The group also commended the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State for summoning Ibas and urged the committee to conduct a transparent and thorough probe into his activities.
