Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.), the newly appointed Administrator of Rivers State, has pledged to work with all stakeholders to restore law, order, and stability following the state of emergency declaration by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Ibas’ First Address After Swearing-In
Speaking to State House correspondents after his official swearing-in at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, Ibas emphasized the need for peace and security in Rivers State.
“First, I think we know the circumstances that led us here. Mr. President made it very clear in his broadcast that the key issue is maintaining law and order in the state. For any meaningful activity to take place, that is the utmost priority,” Ibas stated.

The swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and other senior aides of the President.
Ibas’ Role and Background
President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the state House of Assembly members.
Ibas will oversee governance for an initial six-month period until normalcy is restored.
