Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has defended his public support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the current administration is implementing key reforms originally championed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement made available to NAIJABLOGDAILY, Omokri, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, criticized Atiku Abubakar’s media team for attacking him, despite his continued respect and loyalty to the former Vice President.

“There is absolutely no reason for those around Waziri Atiku Abubakar to attack someone who has never spoken ill of him publicly or privately,” Omokri stated.

Omokri Backs Tinubu for Fulfilling PDP-Led Reforms

Omokri explained that his support for Tinubu stems from the president’s execution of reforms such as:

• Fuel subsidy removal
• Floating of the naira
• Devolution of power
• Student loan schemes

“Yes, I support President Tinubu forcefully because he is achieving what the PDP always promised. Our ultimate goal should be Nigeria’s progress, not party allegiance,” he said.

• Citing the famous quote, “It does not matter if the cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice,” Omokri stressed that national development matters more than political affiliation.
• He noted that both Tinubu and Atiku share similar political roots, having been part of the 1989 Social Democratic Party (SDP).

“There is very little ideological difference between the two. Both leaders share the same foundation,” he added.

Loyalty to Atiku Still Intact

Omokri also defended his integrity, stating he has never breached trust or revealed confidential information from his time supporting Atiku.

“Despite the fallout after the 2023 elections, I’ve remained loyal and never used any private information to my advantage.”

Responds to Attacks Without Retaliation

He expressed disappointment over recent attacks from Atiku’s allies but said he would not retaliate out of respect, not fear.
