Nigeria has lost one of its most iconic business figures, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who passed away at the age of 94.
A reliable family source confirmed that the respected business mogul and philanthropist died in the early hours of Friday at a hospital in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, following a brief illness. He was reported to have passed at around 3am Nigerian time.
Funeral arrangements will be made public in due course, the source added.
Born on May 19, 1931, in Kano State, Alhaji Aminu Dantata was a towering figure in Nigeria’s business and industrial landscape. He played a crucial role in shaping the country’s private sector, becoming a symbol of success, integrity, and enterprise in both northern Nigeria and the nation at large.
Aminu Dantata was widely respected not only for his business acumen but also for his philanthropic contributions, which positively impacted countless lives over the decades.

He is survived by seven children and numerous grandchildren. Among them is Alhaji Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata, a notable figure in his own right.
