President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Ayo Sotinrin as the new Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), effective immediately.
The announcement was made through a statement released by presidential media aide, Bayo Onanuga, who described Sotinrin as a seasoned executive with a robust background in both the public and private sectors.
Before his appointment, Sotinrin served as Group CEO of SAO Group. Under his leadership at SAO Agro, the company spearheaded key agricultural projects, including the development of a 20,000-hectare oil palm plantation and large-scale operations in poultry, aquaculture, maize, and cassava production across Ondo State.

He also led SAO Capital, where he successfully raised over $750 million in infrastructure and development financing, notably securing $200 million for the Akure Water Supply Project.
In the public sector, Sotinrin served as Special Adviser on Environment and Urban Development to the Minister of State for the FCT between 2011 and 2015. He has also worked extensively with international development partners such as the World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB), DFID, and USAID.

His global experience includes roles with Deutsche Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland International, and the UK Environment Agency. Academically, he holds an Executive MBA from Oxford University’s Said Business School, an Advanced Diploma in Environmental Conservation, and a Master’s in Engineering Business Management from Warwick University.
The Tinubu administration emphasized that Sotinrin’s appointment aligns with its renewed strategy to revamp Nigeria’s agricultural sector and achieve sustainable food security.
“Mr. Sotinrin’s expertise in agribusiness, infrastructure development, and capital mobilisation is expected to reposition the Bank of Agriculture as a key driver of food security, rural development, and economic diversification,” the statement added.
