Presidency Apologises for Errors in Tinubu’s Appointments List, Promises Corrected Version.

The Presidency has issued a public apology over noticeable errors in the list of appointments made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

Naija Blog Daily reports that the list, which was released by Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, was intended to counter claims of lopsided appointments and disregard for the federal character principle made by Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South.

In a recent interview with Arise Television, Ndume, a senior APC lawmaker, alleged that President Tinubu had favoured certain regions over others in his political appointments, a claim the presidency swiftly denied.

To address the controversy, Dare published a regional breakdown of the President’s appointments, stating:

  • South West – 29 appointees
  • North West – 35
  • South-South – 22
  • South East – 16
  • North Central – 25
  • North East – 24

However, the list triggered even more backlash online, as critics highlighted the omission of key figures such as Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, and Kemi Nandap, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service—both from the President’s home region, the South West.

This further fueled the perception of South East underrepresentation in Tinubu’s administration, a point that has drawn intense debate across social media platforms.

Reacting to the uproar, Sunday Dare took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday to acknowledge the mistakes.

“We have noticed a number of errors in the list of appointments tweeted. We are sorry. We will provide an updated list later. Thank you,” Dare posted.

The presidency, however, did not explain why some key names were left out of the original document.

As the nation awaits the corrected version of the appointment list, many Nigerians continue to demand equity, inclusion, and transparency in the President’s leadership approach.
