Pope Francis’ Funeral Set for Saturday as Global Leaders, Including Trump and Zelensky, Confirm Attendance.

The Vatican has officially announced that the funeral of Pope Francis will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM (0800 GMT) in St. Peter’s Square, drawing expected attendance from top world leaders, including former U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Pope Francis, aged 88, passed away on Monday due to a stroke that led to irreversible heart failure, according to the Vatican-issued death certificate. His passing comes just weeks after being discharged from Rome's Gemelli Hospital, where he had battled a severe case of double pneumonia.

In a historic decision, Pope Francis will be the first pontiff in over 100 years to be buried outside the Vatican. According to his final wishes, he will be laid to rest in Rome's Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica, in a simple tomb marked only with his Latin name, Franciscus.
