The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Usman Lawan Baba, who had been on the run for over two years following his alleged involvement in a kidnapping and armed robbery incident that took place in 2023.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed that the suspect was apprehended on October 2, 2025, at around 6:00 p.m.

According to Kiyawa, Baba was wanted in connection with the kidnapping and robbery of the Village Head of Garun Babba, Alhaji Abdulmumini Mudi Zakari, aged 41. The attack, which occurred on August 9, 2023, involved the abduction of the victim and the theft of ₦2.7 million, a Tecno Kevo 4 handset, and a wristwatch. Fortunately, the police successfully rescued the village head after the assailants fled the scene.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to his role in the crime and admitted receiving ₦6,000 as his share of the loot. He also identified his accomplices as Bello Kici-Kici, Mallam Sale, Ruwa Shehu, Ibrahim Gwanja, and Sule Naye, who are now being hunted by the police.

Kiyawa disclosed that Baba would be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the police operatives for their diligent efforts and appreciated the public’s continued support and cooperation in combating crime across the state.
He reassured residents of Kano State that the Command remains committed to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
