The lawmaker representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, has alleged that most of the violent attacks in Plateau State are being coordinated from neighbouring states.

Speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, Gagdi explained that criminal elements have found safe havens in forest reserves situated along Plateau’s boundaries.

“The report is right to say that some of those attacks are coordinated from neighbouring states,” he said.

According to him, the forest reserve around the state’s boundary, particularly those close to the Taraba axis, has become a stronghold for bandits, kidnappers, and other armed criminals.

He revealed that many of these attackers, especially from the Zamfara axis in the Northwest and Northeast, have completely relocated to the forest, where they plan and coordinate assaults on farming communities in Plateau.

  • “Farmers are not allowed to farm in that area because it’s a reserved zone. So, it has become a safe haven for bandits and kidnappers. From the reserve along the Taraba boundary, they plan and coordinate attacks on civilians,” Gagdi stated.

The disclosure comes amid growing concerns over the spate of insecurity in Plateau State, where recurring violence has displaced thousands and disrupted farming and economic activities across several communities.
