More than ten victims of a ghastly motor accident along the Benin–Auchi highway were rescued on Saturday through the swift intervention of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.

The governor, who was travelling with his convoy to Irrua in Esan Central Local Government Area, encountered a heavy traffic gridlock shortly after the bypass and immediately alighted to investigate the cause.

According to Channels TV, Governor Okpebholo discovered several accident victims in critical condition, many of them bleeding profusely, while passersby stood helpless at the scene.

Moved by the situation, the governor ordered his aides to deploy two of his security Hilux vehicles to evacuate the injured to a nearby hospital. He personally supervised the operation, ensuring that the victims—including a woman with severe wounds—were carried into the vehicles one after another for urgent medical treatment.

The crash was reportedly caused by the driver of a white Toyota Venza (registration number ABUJA GWA 50 AW), who drove against traffic and collided with three fully loaded commercial minibuses. The impact left scores of passengers badly injured and triggered a massive traffic standstill.

Governor Okpebholo remained at the scene until the last victim was taken to the hospital under security escort before continuing his journey. His quick response and humanitarian gesture drew applause from motorists, residents, and sympathisers present at the scene.

As of the time of this report, neither the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) nor the Edo State Government has released an official statement regarding the accident.
