Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to declare an all-out war on insecurity, stressing that no nation can achieve prosperity while its citizens live in constant fear.
Obi made the call on Monday via his verified X handle in reaction to the wave of violent attacks that claimed over 100 lives across Borno, Sokoto, Katsina, and Edo States over the weekend.

According to the former Governor of Anambra State, the brutal killing of eight Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officials, the abduction of a Chinese national in Edo, and the kidnapping of passengers along the Benin–Iyere–Oluku road are alarming signs of a deepening national crisis.
- “The slaughter of five soldiers and 58 civilians in Borno are not isolated tragedies; they are clear evidence that Nigeria is in the grip of a full-blown security emergency,” Obi stated.
He expressed condolences to the families of the victims, praising the courage of the fallen heroes and demanding that their killers be swiftly brought to justice. Obi warned that when over 100 Nigerians are killed in a single weekend, the casualty figures rival those of countries officially at war.

The LP chieftain stressed that the government must mobilise every resource, agency, and state towards tackling insecurity, while suspending all distractions. He noted that insecurity remains the fastest route to national collapse, citing Somalia and Libya as painful reminders of what unchecked violence can lead to.
Obi concluded by urging urgent and courageous action to prevent a total descent into anarchy, insisting that Nigeria must be rebuilt into a safe, secure, and productive nation for all its citizens.
