PDP Governors Hold Closed-Door Meeting in Zamfara Amid Leadership Crisis.

Published by Cyril | August 23, 2025

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently holding a closed-door meeting at the Zamfara State Government House, Gusau.

Although the exact agenda of the meeting has not been made public, political observers believe it may be linked to the ongoing leadership crisis within the opposition party.

Naija Blog Daily recalls that the PDP is expected to convene its 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Monday, where critical decisions regarding the 2027 presidential ticket will be discussed.

At the heart of the debate are three key options:

  • Zoning the presidential ticket to the South
  • Leaving the ticket open to all aspirants
  • Zoning it to the North

According to party insiders, many stakeholders are strongly in favour of zoning the ticket to the South, arguing that the region still has four years left to balance the party’s internal power-sharing arrangement.

The outcome of the governors’ meeting in Zamfara is expected to play a significant role in shaping discussions at the NEC gathering.
