The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that out of the 40,247 underage candidates who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), only 467 candidates (1.16%) scored high enough to be classified as exceptionally brilliant.
This update was shared via the Board’s official handle, @JAMBHQ, where it also noted that these young candidates’ performance in three more evaluation stages is still pending.
Malpractice, Absenteeism, and Technical Issues
JAMB also disclosed disturbing trends in the 2025 UTME:
- 97 candidates were caught for various exam infractions.
- 2,157 others are under investigation for suspected malpractice.
- A shocking 71,701 candidates were marked absent, with no immediate explanation given.
- Candidates with biometric verification issues are under review and will be rescheduled if cleared.
Some UTME results, including those of blind candidates and the JEOG group, are still being processed.
UTME 2025: Official Performance Breakdown
JAMB’s detailed analysis of the 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the UTME shows that a majority struggled:

- 4,756 (0.24%) scored 320+
- 7,658 (0.39%) scored 300–319
- Total scoring 300 and above: 12,414 (0.63%)
- Above Average:
- 73,441 (3.76%) scored 250–299
- 334,560 (17.11%) scored 200–249
Majority Cluster:
- 983,187 (50.29%) scored 160–199
- 488,197 (24.97%) scored 140–159
Low Range:
- 57,419 (2.94%) scored 120–139
- 3,820 (0.20%) scored 100–119
- 2,031 (0.10%) scored below 100
