The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) Branch, has declared an indefinite strike over the non-payment of salaries and arrears by the Ondo State Government.
The Chairman of ASUU, AAUA Chapter, Dr. Boluwaji Oshodi, confirmed the development in a memo to the university management on Sunday, following resolutions reached at the union’s congress held on Thursday, August 21.
According to the memo, lecturers at the institution have been directed to suspend all academic activities until their financial demands are met.
- “By this notice, our members have been directed to suspend all academic activities until all outstanding salaries and arrears are fully paid,” the memo read.
ASUU Confirms Salary Backlog
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, Dr. Oshodi revealed that members of the union are currently owed two months’ salaries. He further lamented that despite repeated appeals and letters to both the university management and the state government, the situation has remained unresolved.
- “We are being owed two months’ salaries. We made several efforts by contacting the university management and even wrote to the state government,” he stated.

He also accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of failing to fulfil promises made to address the payment issues, noting that trust in the government’s assurances has now waned.
No Response From University Management
Efforts to get the reaction of the university’s management proved abortive, as calls placed to the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Victor Akinpelumi, were not answered.
