The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, has declared a two-week fasting and prayer session for Edo State. The spiritual exercise, according to the monarch, is aimed at warding off evil, ensuring peace, and seeking divine protection for the people of Edo and Nigeria at large.

In a statement released on Monday by the Obamedo of Benin, Efosa Igbinomwanhia, the monarch directed that the fasting and prayer will run from September 15 to September 28, 2025, from 6 am to 6 pm daily. He urged all Benin sons and daughters, both at home and in the diaspora, alongside residents of Edo State, to join in the exercise.
The revered Oba emphasized that the fasting aligns with the age-long Benin tradition, which requires prayers before the annual new yam festival, asking God Almighty and the royal ancestors for a bountiful harvest, protection against sudden death, peace, and prosperity.
