NSCDC Arraigns Woman in ₦159m Visa Scam in Ekiti.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ekiti State Command, has arrested and arraigned a woman, Abigail Brains Timothy, for allegedly defrauding Pastor Adewusi Tibatope Samuel and other victims of ₦159,108,364 in a visa and work permit scam.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Tolulope Afolabi, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Saturday. He said the suspect was arrested after a manhunt spanning multiple states and has been charged before a competent court in Ado Ekiti.

  • “The court has ordered her detention at the Correctional Centre pending the continuation of the trial,” Afolabi stated.

Visa Scam Details

According to NSCDC’s findings, Abigail allegedly posed as a visa agent, claiming she had the capacity and international connections to secure visas and work permits for 65 clients introduced to her by Pastor Adewusi.

Under this guise, she reportedly collected over ₦159 million from the victims for visa fees and related travel processing costs.

On May 25, 2025, NSCDC operatives arrested her in Benin City, Edo State, following her escape from Lagos.

Investigation Outcome

Afolabi explained that the State Intelligence and Investigation Department confirmed that Abigail had no genuine means or intention of securing the visas or employment opportunities she promised.

  • “The suspect acted with clear intent to defraud, and our investigations uncovered no legitimate arrangements backing her claims,” Afolabi noted.
