The Delta State Sports Commission (DSSC) has suspended Warri Wolves Football Club Head Coach, Aluma Napoleon, following a string of poor performances in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).

DSSC confirms suspension

In an official letter dated 29th September 2025 (Ref: DSSC.32/11/91), signed by Okonma Franca on behalf of the Executive Chairman, the commission announced that the suspension takes “immediate effect.”

Coach Napoleon has been directed to hand over all official documents and responsibilities to his assistant, Mr. Jonny Austin, who will now serve as interim head coach until further notice.

Reason for the decision

According to DSSC, the decision was taken because of the club’s underwhelming performance since returning to the Nigeria Premier League this season. The management stressed its determination to reposition the club for “improved performance and sustainable success.”

Recent struggles

The suspension follows Warri Wolves’ 1-2 home defeat to Shooting Stars SC on Matchday 6, played at the Southern Delta University Stadium, Ozoro. The disappointing result sparked frustration among fans, who have been calling for urgent changes to revive the club’s form.

The DSSC assured supporters and stakeholders that efforts are underway to restore the pride of the Warri Wolves, one of Delta State’s most recognized football clubs.
