No Rift Between Ooni of Ife and Me – Alaafin of Oyo Debunks Rumours.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has firmly denied reports of any disagreement or rivalry between him and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, dismissing the viral claims as baseless social media rumours.

Speculation began after Oba Owoade recently paid courtesy visits to prominent monarchs in Osun State, including the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyelude, and the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi. Many online users interpreted the move as a deliberate snub of the Ooni of Ife.

However, in a now-viral video where the monarch spoke in Yoruba, Oba Owoade clarified that he had planned to visit the Ooni first, but learned the royal was out of the country at the time.

“It is not something you hide. One of the kings I intended to visit was the Ooni of Ife. I informed my PA and Chief of Staff ahead, and they contacted his team. That’s when we were told he had travelled to Kazakhstan,” the Alaafin explained.

“People who don’t know the facts are the ones spreading rumours online. There is no rift between us. In fact, there was a time I was with the Soun of Ogbomoso, and we spoke with the Ooni on the phone together.”

Promoting Royal Unity and Yoruba Heritage

The Alaafin’s remarks are aimed at quelling tension and reinforcing the long-standing unity among Yoruba traditional rulers. The statements come amid growing interest and commentary about the role of royal figures in regional politics and cultural leadership.

Both the Ooni of Ife and the Alaafin of Oyo are regarded as symbolic pillars of Yoruba culture, and any sign of conflict between them often fuels widespread speculation and concern.

Oba Owoade emphasized that his tour of Osun monarchs was not politically motivated, but purely part of a traditional engagement to strengthen inter-kingdom relationships.
