Ademola Lookman will miss Atalanta’s UEFA Champions League opener against Paris Saint-Germain as coach Ivan Juric confirmed the Nigerian forward remains sidelined following his failed summer transfer to Inter Milan.
Atalanta prepared for Wednesday’s showdown in Paris with a 4-1 victory over Lecce, once again without their star forward. Juric admitted the situation was “unpleasant,” stressing that the club needs players committed to the shirt and ready to give their best.
Lookman, 27, has risen to become one of Europe’s most exciting attackers since joining Atalanta three years ago. He has scored 52 goals in 117 matches, including his historic hat-trick in the 2024 Europa League final, when Atalanta stunned Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 to lift their first-ever European trophy.

Despite netting 20 goals in all competitions last season, including five in seven Champions League matches, Lookman damaged his relationship with the Bergamo club by abandoning training in an attempt to force a move to Inter. Atalanta refused to budge on their €50 million ($59m) valuation, leaving Lookman stranded.
Now under Juric, who replaced Gian Piero Gasperini, Lookman remains frozen out despite being under contract until June 2027. His absence will be a huge blow as Atalanta face defending champions PSG in their Champions League opener.
