The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to N910 per litre at its retail outlets.
Naija Blog Daily correspondents observed the price adjustment on Saturday at several NNPCL retail stations, including locations along Kubwa Expressway, Zone 4, and Gudu in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. This marks a N25 reduction from the previous price of N935 per litre.
The move comes as the latest twist in the ongoing fuel price war in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector. The recent drop in price has led to long queues at NNPCL filling stations, as motorists rush to take advantage of the new rate.
This price reduction follows the earlier announcement by Dangote Refinery, which slashed its ex-depot price to N835 per litre. In response, Dangote’s partners—including MRS, Ardova (AP), Heyden, Optima Energy, Hyde, and Techno Oil—have also adjusted their prices to sell between N890 and N920 per litre across Lagos, Abuja, and other cities.

The resulting market disruption has put pressure on other retailers, with many still selling fuel at N930 to N950 per litre depending on location.
NNPCL had only recently reduced its pump price from N970 to N935 on April 20, 2025, and this further cut to N910 signals an intensifying competition in the fuel market.
As the battle for customers heats up, consumers may benefit in the short term, but market analysts warn that long-term sustainability and regulatory oversight will be critical in avoiding instability in the sector.
