Fresh revelations from the public payments portal, Govspend, show that the Nigerian Police under Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun spent a staggering ₦507.5 million in a single day on the renovation and furnishing of the IGP’s Maitama guest house.
According to the records, on December 7, 2023, two separate payments were made to Beckybliss Nigeria Limited. The first, ₦153.4 million, was tagged as the “final payment for extensive renovation and furnishing works,” while the second, ₦354.1 million, was also for similar works on the same Maitama guest house.
Checks further revealed that the company behind the contract, Beckybliss Nigeria Limited, is owned by Rebecca Omokamo Godwin, who is currently facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of fraudulent land sales and money laundering worth over ₦500 million.

Rebecca, also known as Bilikisu Ishaku Aliyu, has been accused of defrauding Abuja residents in land transactions. In July, a prosecution witness testified before the Federal High Court in Abuja, claiming he lost ₦62 million in a land deal with her company.

This isn’t the first time the police under Egbetokun have come under fire for questionable spending. Earlier reports revealed that the force spent ₦86 million on Christmas decorations for the Force Headquarters and the IGP’s residences in Lagos and Abuja. Similarly, between April and November 2024, the police spent ₦59.4 million on Inspector General–branded towels and other items.
The revelations have sparked outrage among Nigerians, with civil society groups accusing the police leadership of prioritizing frivolous expenses over urgent national security needs.
