The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reaffirmed its commitment to ramp up counter-terrorism operations against terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers across northern Nigeria to safeguard farmers throughout the planting and harvest seasons.
At a press briefing in Abuja, the Director of Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye said troops are sustaining rapid responses to distress calls, neutralizing key commanders via ground raids and airstrikes, arresting collaborators and informants, and rescuing kidnap victims—measures aimed at ensuring safe access to farmlands and boosting food security.
Key operational highlights
Northeast (Borno, Adamawa, Yobe): Aug 29–Sept 1—offensives in Bama, Biu, Marte, Madagali, Michika, and Damaturu; 13 collaborators, a gunrunner, and a drug peddler arrested; multiple terrorists neutralized; abductees rescued.
Northwest (Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna): Aug 31–Sept 2—several terrorists eliminated, 23 suspects arrested, 24 kidnap victims rescued; weapons recovered.

Plateau & Kaduna (Op ENDURING PEACE): Aug 30–Sept 2—actions in Mangu, Riyom, Jos North/East, Bassa, Qua’an Pan, Barkin Ladi, and Kaura; terrorists killed, six criminals arrested, victims rescued; arms, ammo, motorcycles, and vehicles seized.
Ransom interception: A suspected kidnapper was nabbed while attempting to withdraw ₦3,000,000 from a POS in Bassa LGA on Aug 30.
Maj.-Gen. Kangye emphasized that these operations will persist beyond the farming season to consolidate security gains, protect rural communities, and stabilize agricultural production across the North.
