Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has revealed that Nigeria is set to earn up to $7 million daily from fertiliser exports within the next two years, making the Dangote Group a major player in Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings.
Dangote made the disclosure during a courtesy visit to Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), in Lagos.
Massive Fertiliser Exportation Plan
Speaking on the company’s future plans, Dangote stated:
“In the next two years, we will be exporting about 16,000 tonnes of fertiliser daily, generating between $6.5 million to $7 million in revenue for the country.”
He added that this export programme will make Dangote Group the largest contributor to Nigeria’s forex reserves, amid ongoing economic reforms and efforts to boost non-oil revenue.
Refinery to Boost Exports with Polypropylene & Coal
Dangote also announced the refinery’s upcoming export of coal and polypropylene in a few weeks:
“The refinery will not export less than 25 million tonnes of various products. We’ll also be exporting 600,000 to 700,000 metric tonnes of polypropylene,” he said.
This is part of Dangote’s broader strategy to make Nigeria a major exporter of petroleum and petrochemical products, reduce import dependence, and strengthen the naira.

NPA Sees Record Shipping Traffic
In response, NPA boss Abubakar Dantsoho noted that since the naira-for-crude deal began in October 2024, port activities have surged:
“We’re now operating 57 vessels monthly, surpassing Dangote’s initial projection of 600 vessels annually.”
Dantsoho emphasized the need for synergy among government agencies to ensure continued efficiency and economic growth.
